Khaya Mthethwa Reveals Why He Chose To Sing Gospel Music
Khaya Mthethwa rose to fame back in 2012 when he entered one of the best music shows in South Africa Idols SA. He stole everyone’s hearts whenever he sang, it was obvious from the beginning that he was going to make it to the finals even through the competition was tight. When Mthethwa won the competition back in 2012 like most previous artists it was expected that he was going to be involved in music genres such as R&B, Pop or even jazz. It never occurred to most people that he would choose a Gospel as the genre to specialize in. His father being a pastor was still not enough to have people believe that he would sing Gospel Music.
In an interview with TshisaLive the ‘Praise Your Name’ singer said that Gospel music was connected to his purpose on earth and that he couldn’t escape from it. “It was and just is who I am. I could have easily continued with pop music or soul or whatever, but I didn’t want to do something I wouldn’t be able to come back from. Gospel has always been part of my story, my identity and I always knew God had placed me here for a reason,” he said
Khaya also mentioned how gospel music opened doors for him and sharpened his musical abilities. The singer is currently working as a presenter on two shows on air, SABC’s Gospel Avenue and BET’s Rhythm & Gospel, which he believed confirmed that he was always on the right path.
