Zakes Bantwini Speaks About The Death Of His Mother
Musician Zakhele Madida famously known as Zakes Bantwini spoke of how the death of his mother affected him with TshisaLive. His mother died 10 years ago, she was suffering from cancer.
Zakes said that his mother’s death still haunts him and that losing her was the most painful time of his life. The singer added that his music is a tribute to his mom. The family was told that Zakes mother had one month left to live before she died.
“They told us that if we had money to bury her now we must let her go because she was suffering. But if we did not have the money and raise funds, he would put her on chemotherapy,” said Bantwini.
Zakes recalled how the whole experience of having to say goodbye to his mother pained him greatly. “I was told to say my goodbyes and i was in tears, I didn’t understand why it was happening to my mother and my family,” he said.
That experience led the muso to start a cancer awareness campaign.
Each year the ‘Wasting my time’ hitmaker organises a celebrity netball challenge to raise cancer awareness in honour of his late mother. His aim to honour his mother is to have her legacy live on and to educate people about the dangers of cancer.
