AKA On Why He Said SA Hip Hop Artists Are Not Original
Rapper AKA mentioned a while back in an interview with The Plug Magazine that he feels South African rappers have lost the soul and originality when making music.
Keeping no opinion to himself the Caiphus song hitmaker went on to elaborate more on his statement. “I just feel that SA hip hop/celeb culture is just more materialistic than it’s ever been. I listen to these guys and ask myself, “Where is the soul?” Where is the pride in sounding original? Where is the bravery to discover sounds and styles that we have never heard before? One Time, Caiphus Song, World Is Yours, Congratulate, Bryanston Drive etc., NOTHING in the game right now sounds anything like my music, NOTHING” he expressed.
Adding to his statement he said that the guys in the Hip Hop industry are more consumed with Social Media that’s why they barely get anything done the right way. “Niggas are so consumed with social media, with Instagram – all these guys are doing is building and perpetuating stereotypes. Their writing is sloppy, their sound is generic, and they have no soul. What happened to their soul’s man?!? It bores me to death. It’s embarrassing,” he said.
In conclusion the rapper that most would call arrogant while others would say he is just confident said that people deserve better and that’s what he intends to offer them. “Our people deserve better. As long as I’m alive, I’ll fight this mindset and keep reinventing and pushing the culture forward. THAT IS WHY I AM SO SUCCESSFUL. THAT IS WHY I AM STILL HERE. THAT IS WHY I AM THE SUPA MEGA.”
