SA Female rapper and TV Presenter Nomuzi Mabena popularly known as Moozlie expressed in an interview with Jeanie D at an SABC3’s Afternoon Express show how the thoughts of one of her idols Brenda Fassie helps her get through the hardships of being a woman in the music industry more especially Hip Hop.
Moozlie is famous for her unique style in fashion, her short hair and her awesome rapping abilities. Like most women in the Hip Hop and Rap scene, she never had it easy when she was still paving her way in, she expressed how she often felt intimidated and came close to giving up but then thinking about what the late Pop Queen MaBrrr would do just rescued her.
“Coming into the hip-hop scene it was still very fresh for females to be that confident and I was rolling around with the squad of the coolest and biggest rappers and sometimes it would get so intimidating and I‘d just be like ‘I don’t think I have a place here’. And then I would just be like, ‘what would Brenda Fassie do’?” she explained.
Nomuzi went on to say that she wants to be like Brenda in all ways she can be. “Yes I want to be Brenda Fassie, why can I not aspire to that level of greatness? She was a female artist who was so iconic and she really didn’t care about what people had to say. I loved Brenda’s one of a kind swag and style and i hope to be as iconic as the singer one day, ” added Mabena.
