“In South Africa we need to play our OWN music, black or white” Says Ringo Madlingozi

Over the years there have been cases where South African artists have been complaining about the lack of radio play in result radio stations came up with an idea to play 90% local music which by the looks of thing have failed to do.

Ringo Madlingozi is one of the long time musicians who have spoken about how he feels South Africa play less of its local music and that people have been brainwashed to listen to foreign music. “People have been so brainwashed into wanting to listen to foreign music. You are going to want to listen to something (if it’s played all the time). There used to be this song by Judy Boucher (Cant’ Be With You Tonight) that I hated it until I loved it,” he said on an interview on Cliffcentral with Gareth Cliff.

Madlingozi went to state that South Africans need to love themselves more.”I’m in South Africa we need to play our own music, black or white. We have our own music don’t we? And for the fact that the advertisers are the one who decide that we need to have Beyonce or whatever playing, for me, I believe that we need to love ourselves more,” he said.

In conclusion the Ndiyagodola hitmaker said that if more local music was played, people would learn to adapt and eventually grow to love their own music as South Africans. Also clarifying that he did not hate foreign artists, but felt like South Africans needed to change their mindset towards local music.
