Zahara Cancelled An Event Because Of Money
Multi-award winning Afro pop songstress Zahara explained the reasons she didn’t perform in an event she was set to perform by stating that she wasn’t paid full amount and she refuses to perform for free.
Fans were furious at her for not showing and sent angry messages. She said that she refuses to be exploited. “I won’t be exploited. I refuse to work without pay. This is my business and I can’t perform for free. I understand that my fans are disappointed and wanted to see me but that is what I have decided.”
The singer truthfully expressed that music is her business, as much as she loved her fans she still needs to make a living. The company that requested for the Loliwe hitmaker to come and perform consulted her and they discussed that she will get 50% of the payment prior performing and will get the rest in the performing night. “The issue was non-payment. We had a contract an agreement with the festival that they would pay me 50 percent before the festival and the rest at the show. I didn’t receive any money from them but still travelled to the festival because I thought they would pay. They didn’t and so I refused to perform,” she said in an interview with TshisaLive.
The organiser of the event Jackie Chili slammed Zahara’s claims and stated that both parties reached a mutual agreement of cancelling the show due to the bad weather that would’ve affected the performance. “A decision was made by both ourselves and Zahara’s management that because of the weather and because she was running late, she would not perform and in good faith we would allow her to keep the deposit. We had the money for her but the show had to be stopped,” he said.
