KiD X’s ‘Aunty’ Set To Rock Fans This Festive Season
KiD X, returns onto the hip hop scene with a highly awaited track Aunty featuring the talented vocalist, Chiano Sky set to cause a resurgence of the Kwaito sound. Speaking on the inspiration behind the song, the rapper revealed that he was going for something that would evoke emotions of nostalgia.
“This record was inspired by the late vocalist TK’s record How Do You Feel which featured rapper Twistyle. We obviously took the bridge and modernised it with a few changes to the lyrics,” said KiD X.
While the title may suggest that he is referring to a relative of his, Aunty has a much deeper ‘street’ meaning which the rapper was gracious to share.
“The message of the song is about being free and letting go of everything that is holding you back. The hook has the repetitive lyrics: ‘Aunty ngi’Cela le stuff say’zolo,’ which can be interpreted in a lot of ways. ‘iStuff aye’zolo’ could refer to good old times.”
Aunty, comes after he pulled our heart strings earlier in the year with Mfazi Wephepha, a well-loved Maskandi influenced single featuring Yanga and Mashayabuqe. Clarifying what genre Aunty falls in, KiD Xrevealed that his versatility stems from an upbringing that saw him listen to all kinds of music and informs his eclecticism when composing material. With all that blend in genres, it remains important to KiD X that his fans do not don’t forget their South African heritage.
“My sound has kwaito, some elements of house music and even R&B. It’s the music I grew up listening to, from Brenda Fassie to TKZee,” he said.
