Samthing Soweto: “It took me an hour to write and record Akanamali”

Samthing Soweto has revealed how the hit single that topped the charts Akanamali was made possible in just an hour. Considering how banging the track is and how well it has been taking over the whole country by storm, this all proves how talented Samthing is.

The song Akanamali features another musical sensations Sun-EL Musician. This isn’t the first song Samthing whose born is Samkelo Mdolomba has worked on ever since his separation with the biggest Acapella group in SA The Soil. He released a debut solo EP ‘Ebsuku’ back in 2014 and gained as much recognition as he could, proven by how he has managed to release more projects afterwards. Akanamali is one of those successful offerings.

“It took me an hour to write and record,” he says of Akanamali. He met Sanele Sithole, known as Sun-EL Musician, through an acquaintance after their music interests converged. “I had the verse, the chorus, the bridge and the bassline.”
Six months later, Sithole finally had a beat and production and Akanamali was born. If it wasn’t for the collaboration, Mdolomba says he would still have released the song, but is certain it wouldn’t have had the same effect on popular consciousness.

In addition he said that leaving the soil was just another way of finding himself as an individual artist.“At first, it was pure expression. Now I know the difference between creating what I want and what the people want, and I’ve found a balance between the two,” he says of his artistic shift. “For a very long time it wasn’t a thing for me.”
