DJ Maphorisa Takes Gqom to the US

Hot off the back of DJ Maphorisa’s global GQOM WAVE release on 17 November – which saw the compilation debut on the US iTunes and Apple charts – today marks the release of the smash hit single Midnight Starring in the US and Canada through premier dance label, Ultra Records.

The accomplished producer who also contributed to the creation of the recently launched Gqom Wave documentary, states the significance of taking Gqom to a global audience.

“I am really excited about the release of Midnight Starring in the US today. For me this signifies how SA is one step closer to taking Gqom to the rest of the world. Our music is authentic and people gravitate towards it because of the way it makes them feel. I am grateful that I am supported by many in the movement that will see Gqom become a global phenomenon”.

GQOM WAVE is the first release through the recently announced joint venture with DJ Maphorisa’s Blaqboy Music and Sony Music Africa.

DJ Maphorisa’s passion and mission is to unearth new talent through the Blaqboy Music JV as is evident on GQOM WAVE where he has collaborated with a number of producers from around the country.  The compilation features a stellar line-up of some of the greatest names making waves in the Gqom scene right now along with up and coming producers.
