Ladysmith Black Mambazo Scoop A 5th Grammy Award. Multi award winning Sicathamiya group Ladysmith Black Mambazo has once again made South Africa proud by adding a 5th Grammy Award win to their collection after decades of blazing and flying the SA flag way up high. The stars of the group flew to New York to receive their award in a ceremony that was taking place at Madison Square Garden on Sunday night.
Their award was for Best World Music Album for their album Shaka Zulu Revisited. Over the years the group have recieved a total of 18 nominations in the Grammy awards but managed to scoop 5 which is a huge achievement considering their genre and how most people find hard to understand.
The total number of the awards they’ve collected is 12 from various award ceremonies. The band has been in existence for over 40 years now but each generation brings the same energy and spice that varies in some interesting way which could explain why they still relevant to this day and still much loved by the world.
When the founder of the group was asked when will he retire from music in 2016 he sais issued a statement that explained how the group will still carry on with our without him.
“Ladysmith Black Mambazo is a family. Within the group I have had brothers and cousins singing together. Over the past fifteen years, because of retirements and death, I have been joined by four of my sons. They are the future of Ladysmith Black Mambazo, our next generation. The mission and message will continue. When the time comes for me to finish touring and to stay home they will carry on my dream. As well, my son Thamsanqa (Tommy) will become the new leader of the group. Thus, the dream I had over forty five years ago will continue well into the 21st century. Ladysmith Black Mambazo must continue as the message of Peace, Love and Harmony never must be silenced. We never will be silenced and we hope our fans and friends around the world will keep wanting to hear this message,” said the Founder Joseph Tshabalala
