Court Grants Chicco Thwala An Interdict For Brenda Fassie’s Biopic

The war between Bongani and Chicco over Brenda Fassie's movie turns sour

Court Grants Chicco Thwala An Interdict For Brenda Fassie’s Biopic. After a short battle of fighting over the making of a film of the late Brenda Fassie’s life between Chicco and Bongani, the two finally took it to court. Unfortunately for  and Showbizbee the court granted Chicco an interdict – which favoured his side of why he doesn’t want the film to be made.

Chicco filed a complaint against the UK-based production company, Showbizbee saying that as Brenda Fassie’s producer he prohibits that the movie be made without his consent and therefore will not sign the rights of them using her music in the film which he wrote and produced.

According to City Press publication the court interdict stated that Brenda Estate, Bongani Fassie, Legaci Nova Entertainment, Vaughn Eaton (Bongani’s manager) and Showbizbee are interdicted from conducting any casting auditions, promotions, advertisement and production of the movie about Brenda.

They would also be interdicted from continuing with any pre-production for the movie directly or indirectly through any third party or entering into any contract with any party for the production of Brenda movie.

The movie was set to premiere on Brenda’s birthday on 3 November 2018 but Chicco is fighting tooth and nail to make sure that it doesn’t see the light of the day. From auditions to the actual production of the film the court interdicted all of it – but Bongani is still willing to fight Chicco until the film comes to life.

Recently, the UK-based film production company tweeted their statement on the unforeseen delay.

“Due to an ongoing court proceeding, we will not be releasing any details pertaining to the cast member of Brenda Fassie movie project ‘Brenda’ which was due to be made public on 11.02.2018.”
