Sean Trimz: The Low-Key Hitmaker Behind South Africa’s Biggest TV Shows

Sean Trimz, born Dumisani Mlaudza in Katlehong and raised in Vosloorus, has built a music career that thrives without chasing the spotlight. As an artist, songwriter, record producer, and record executive, he has shaped the soundtrack of some of South Africa’s most-watched television shows, all while running his independent record label, Certified Clique Music.
His work has been featured in household favourites including “Isidingo”, “Gomora”, “Uzalo”, “Isibaya”, “Isithembiso” and “The Queen”. Millions hear his music every week, yet Trimz remains largely behind the scenes. For him, the focus has always been on building a sustainable career rather than pursuing fame.
Trimz’s journey began in primary school, singing in the choir and writing songs. By 2011, he was recording his own material, and in 2013, he launched Certified Clique Music. His first major breakthrough came in 2015 with the single “MyTurn”, which earned him industry recognition and set the tone for his career.
Since then, he has released notable projects such as “Thang For Ya”, “Eastside”, “Eastside 2.0”, “Freedom” and the “No Validation” EP, which reached number one on iTunes within an hour of its release. His catalogue reflects both versatility and consistency, with music that crosses genres while maintaining a strong South African identity.
Reflecting on his success in television soundtracks, Trimz says, “It feels really good because that’s where music sells itself. Having my music play on TV changed a lot for me. These shows are licensed and marketed internationally, so they gave me global reach. I even get direct messages on Instagram from people around the world who discovered my music through those shows.”
His music’s reach extends beyond South Africa’s borders, connecting with international audiences through the storytelling of local dramas. This exposure has brought him a global fan base without the typical trappings of celebrity life.
Trimz’s approach to the industry is intentional. “I don’t want to be famous but broke. That’s never been the goal. I’ve always been focused on building a solid, sustainable music career that generates real income, not just hype,” he explains. His strategy prioritises financial stability, ownership, and longevity over short-lived attention.
With a career grounded in skill, discipline, and business acumen, Sean Trimz continues to influence the South African entertainment landscape. His music may be in the background of the country’s biggest TV shows, but his vision ensures his impact will last far into the future.
