DJ Warras On Why He Is Living AMP. DJ Warras is the young man that SABC 1 viewers have known and admired for years for his outstanding fun presenting skills on the music show Live AMP, now the presenter has shared the saddening news that he is leaving the show to pursue other commitments.
DJ Warras, real name Warrick Stock told DRUM he is leaving the show in order for new talent to be showcased.
“I’ve been on the show for the longest time of any presenter on a music show on SABC 1,” he said on his departure. “I also have businesses that I run, which include a security company and a media agency so for me the time has come. It’s also not smart for me to hog the space kuze kuyovalwa(until it shuts down), you’ve got to give others a chance.”
The former YFM and 5FM DJ was grateful for the chance to have presented the show, having worked with the likes of Pearl Thusi, Loot Love and Lerato Kganyago over the years.
“The platform has built me into who I am. I have become an icon of the South African music and entertainment industry. Everyone knows me, even white people. Everyone that has hosted it, including Bonang, DJ Fresh, Loot Love, even when it was Studio mix has enjoyed the benefits of it. That’s why I think the time is right for someone else to enjoy the benefits of it.”
Having left radio last year to focus on his businesses, Warras’ exit will allow him to focus more time on solidifying other aspects of his brand.
“There’s definitely no shortage of work, it’s just about being selective about the work I do,” he said about his next step.
“I also run two companies full time, so time is not in my favour. In the beginning I could shoot the whole week because it was all I did but not anymore. Whatever show I do now, needs to fit into the schedule that I have planned in terms of my businesses. I do TV because I am passionate about it, it’s something that I’m talented doing and I would never stop doing it.”
