Ladysmith Black Mambazo Set To Pay Tribute To Madiba. Multi-award winning Mbhaqanga band Ladysmith Black Mambazo is set to pay tribute to Nelson Mandela as they perform a number of their hit singles with some specially dedicated to the late SA hero Madiba. The show is set to take place at the State Theatre in Tshwane on the 1st of June at 8pm and on the 2nd of June at 8pm lastly on the 3rd of June at 3pm.
Ladysmith is one of the musical groups that Tata Madiba admired so much, they have perfromed in few of his important occasions included his inaugration, he even asked them back in 1993 to travel with him to Oslo, Norway to receive the Nobel Peace Prize. The band will also be celebrating 58 years in the music industry.
After many more special appearances with the icon, Mandela proclaimed the group South Africa’s “cultural ambassadors to the world”.
“We also wish to salute and dedicate this award to the founder, Professor Joseph Shabalala, who led this group from the dusty streets of Ladysmith to global prominence.”
