Sounds of Legends Event Sets the Tone for a Meaningful Festive Season in Soweto

This year has tested many people. Busy schedules, social pressure and constant change have left little room to pause. As the year draws to a close, many are planning trips and moments of rest to recharge and reflect. The festive season is now approaching, and artists across Mzansi are stepping into celebration mode. One of them is singer Lasauce, who will perform next Saturday at the Sounds of Legends event in Pimville, Soweto.

The event is curated by music icon Sbu Malawyer, a respected figure in South African music. He is also preparing for the release of his upcoming album Mgazi, set to drop early next year. The event brings together legacy, live performance and cultural appreciation at a time when audiences are ready for connection.

Speaking ahead of the show, Lasauce shared her excitement about being part of the lineup. She said audiences can expect a strong and uplifting atmosphere as the festive season officially opens. She described the booking as an honour and expressed pride in sharing the stage with artists she respects. Lasauce has previously worked with artists such as Priddy Ugly, and while she has kept a low profile recently, she returned earlier this month with a new EP titled Inqaba.

The EP release also coincided with a major collaboration. Lasauce worked with Yvonne Chaka Chaka on a song titled Imbokodo, created as part of the ongoing fight against gender based violence. The issue has been declared a national emergency in South Africa.

She explained that Imbokodo represents strength and resilience among women. The song speaks directly to the realities faced by many South Africans. She stressed that gender based violence affects everyone, regardless of age, and requires collective action. At the Sounds of Legends event, Lasauce will also perform one of Yvonne Chaka Chaka’s songs. She described this as a tribute to artists who laid the foundation for today’s music industry.

She highlighted the importance of celebrating legends while they are still alive. Too often, recognition comes too late. Events like this create space to show appreciation in real time and to acknowledge the work that made current careers possible. The Sounds of Legends lineup includes MXO, Brian Temba and Bheki Nqoko, among others. The event promises a mix of nostalgia, live vocals and cultural pride.

As the festive season begins, Sounds of Legends offers more than entertainment. It offers reflection, gratitude and a reminder of the voices that continue to shape South African music.
