Ndlovu Youth Choir Releases Historic isiZulu Version of ‘Bohemian Rhapsody’

The Ndlovu Youth Choir has unveiled a groundbreaking recording of Queen’s iconic song, “Bohemian Rhapsody.” This rendition is the first-ever translation of the classic into another language and has been officially approved by Queen’s surviving members, Brian May and Roger Taylor.
Performed entirely in isiZulu, the Choir’s version retains the drama, emotion, and artistry of the original while adding their signature African harmonies and vibrant spirit. Choir Master Ralf Schmitt expressed the excitement behind the project: “Securing the rights to perform and record Bohemian Rhapsody has been a long and patient journey. Many role players around the world working together made this dream possible. The Choir is thrilled to share this very special version with audiences everywhere. To have the blessing of Brian May and Roger Taylor is an immense honor. We cannot wait for the world to hear it.”
The release coincides with preparations for the Choir’s 2025 Heritage Tour, a nationwide celebration of South African music, dance, and unity. Scheduled for September, the tour will focus on small towns and underserved communities, giving audiences their first chance to experience the Choir’s full-scale international production live in their hometowns.
Each performance promises to be an interactive and joyful experience, blending reimagined traditional African songs, original local compositions, and globally recognized hits. Audiences are encouraged to sing, dance, and celebrate both the music and the spirit of the nation.
With this historic recording and the upcoming tour, the Ndlovu Youth Choir continues to redefine the global stage for South African choral music, blending heritage, innovation, and international recognition.
