Sjava still In touch with his Roots

Take an opportunity to watch Sjava’s new music video for ‘Umama.’

It is refreshing to witness a black man going back home to his roots to give back to his family. We are a generation that needs to rectify past errors by committing ourselves to what is important. Celebrities turn to squander their money recklessly when they begin to receive it in abundance. Although, once the funds dissipate, one becomes disappointed; the sad part, you spend your money reverting yourself back to your poverty state.

The celebrated B.E.T award-winning star has been enthusiastically sharing his up-to-date music video – “Umama” stipulating just how authentic his character is in an industry known to embrace a facade. I Love his seldom approach in the music industry. He does not conform to the standards or platitudes of many. He has his priorities checked; honoured his mother the best way he could. How beautiful is that?

In the video, Sjava discloses his mother in the purest form, and she utters words of encouragement when she sends a plea to the ancestors to keep a watchful eye on the comings and goings of his son. He was born and bred in that place; he has become the man he is because of his upbringing. The video is evidence of how attached he is to where he comes from. We need more men who ooze with character and principles such as his.

The rest of the community members also took part in the celebration, twirling alongside their icon. This song “Umama” is extracted from his latest album – Umqhele; he declares his love for his mother and the moments he misses. He expresses his sentiments towards mama. If you have not watched the music video, please do your self the favour.

One thing I admire about him is his acknowledgement that home is a place of rest. Life is unpredictable, change is inevitable, things happen. It can get so overwhelming;  you need to shelter your soul and thoughts. One has to recharge and be empowered to face this world. He reconstructed a motion picture in both “Umama” & Umqhele, that depicts a hard-working man who gives his skills and talents to the music industry without limitations and after all, has been said and done, he remembers his way back home to connect with his ancestors.

He is a good example to the youth; he has been applauded by his followers for gifting his mother with a home in the village. He portrays a character of humility; he has not allowed fame and money to alter his perspective of who he is and the importance of other people. He took time to show gratitude to his fans for supporting him in his musical journey and emphasised how they have made it possible for him to build a house for his mother. There are a few rappers of his calibre and we hope many inspired upcoming rappers will emulate his positive actions.
