The DJ, producer has done work even prior to his produced hits, he told DRUM he has produced hits for Bucie, Zakes Bantwini and Shota. Sun-El Musician created a banger with the likes of Samthing Soweto, he said he began creating “Akanamali” in the year 2016, then advance to Johannesburg a year later.
“I was broke when Akanamali was made,” he says. “All the studio equipment was donated to me by friends and my mentor, Demor Sikhosana.”
How they met was interesting, Sun-El Musician and Samthing Soweto met through a mutual companion and since then they hit it off and decided to collaborate. Samthing Soweto began with a melody prior to narrating the lyrics and Sun-El ushered with the beat.
“The studio was makeshift and when we recorded you could hear the birds in the background.”
It took time to produce the hit song, for quite some time he felt it was not his best-produced work that was prior to the release. He used to pause and stash it away for some time, but a miracle happened, four months went by, and his brother reminded him, told him to take another attempt and work on the single.
After that attempt, he gave his close counterparts a listen of the track and they gave it thumbs up. His life has forever transformed because of the single. When the track became a hit, he received an opportunity to work with Alicia Keys and her husband – Swizz Beatz.
He went to the US, It was amazing, accommodation and flights were booked. He had an opportunity to stay for a week. “We worked on three songs for both their albums. We’ll find out this year if the songs made the cut,” Sun-El says.
Sun-El has since started his record company, EL World Music, and signed Simmy and Eswatini-born star S-Tone, who’ll be releasing his album Route this year. “I’m so proud of how far we’ve come,” he exclaims.
