Top 1O Things That You Didn’t Know About Thee Legacy – Thee Legacy is a distinctly South African contemporary Isicathamiya acapella group. Now four years following releasing their self-titled debut album, the band is on their way to releasing their much-anticipated album.

Now, check out the top 10 things you did not know about Thee Legacy:

  1. The Acappella group won the inaugural The Sing-Off SA and have released their self-titled album “Thee Legacy”. They elevated to fame as a result of winning the inaugural Sing Off South Africa in the year 2015 a cappella music competition, which was broadcasted on SABC 1 and afforded them a recording deal with Sony Music Entertainment Africa.

“It was such a brilliant experience. As a group, we have been singing since 2009, and when we decided to audition, it was just to see how far we would go. We went there and did our thing and the people really appreciated it,” said Mthembu.

2. The group name “Thee Legacy” was chosen by Mthembu to bring light to their distinction and originality.

“We are staying true to who we are and being rooted in our culture, not forgetting where we come from. We are also adding a modern touch so that we can accommodate the younger audience.”

3. In case you did not know, or perhaps forgotten, Thee Legacy was nominated at the 16th Metro FM Music Awards in the Best Remix category for radio charting singles Wena Wedwa (MusicCraftMAN Mix) and S’thandwa Sami (Mr Kamera Remix); they created history in that time being the only artists to be granted with more than one nomination in the same MMA16 category.

4. When the Accapella group was established in 2009 it was titled “Young Mbazo,” a fraction of the members in the team are related to Ladysmith Black Mambazo; such as Jabulani Mthembu whose grandfather, Russel Mthembu, is a member of Lady Smith Black Mambazo and Khanyisani Mazibuko whose father, Albert Mazibuko, happens to be a member of Lady Smith Black Mambazo. 5. Prior to competing at The Sing-Off South Africa competition in 2015, the group embodied more than five members. In respect to the competition essentials, they had to extract some members, as the competition necessitated a paramount of five members. They obviously discovered the key, the winning ingredient with their 5-member group.

6. The group expounds that their music is a fusion of aboriginal culture, acapella amalgamated with R&B, Hip-Hop and Isicathamiya. This differentiation of their African sound is what sets them apart.

7. They have been recently attributed to Sikelela by Duncan track in his new album. Thee Legacy connects their vocals with the sound that depicts the national anthem of South Africa.

8. Thee Legacy collaborated with DJ Maphorisa and Mlindo The Vocalist for their new single ‘Thando’ – and the response has been phenomenal. The official audio has ranked up over 26 000 views in a week and the track continues to grow on a daily basis.

9. The names of the members: Thee Legacy comprises Jabulani Mthembu, Khanyisani Mazibuko, Philani Duma, Emille Ngcobo and Simphiwe Sikhakhane who all hail from the INK area (Inanda, Ntuzuma, KwaMashu) in KwaZulu Natal.

10. Sometimes Mthembu, one of the group members dreams of harmony and wakes up to attempt to emulate it to the best of our abilities to produce a single.
“Sometimes I dream of harmony. And thanks to technology, I am often able to get up at that time of night and sort of mumble it to myself, just so that I don’t forget it. Then in the morning, I will come up with lyrics that accommodate the lyrics.
