Details inside! Ladysmith Black Mambazo Is Set To Host Their First “Cothoza” Awards – The introductory Cothoza Awards acknowledges and pays tribute to people who have set the standard, an outline in contributing to the isicathamiya and acapella music, and ensuring it is reachable to a broad audience.
We all know Ladysmith Black Mambazo is a winning team, Grammy Award-winning group, they have created a legacy for the youth of South Africa and globally. In the previous year, they bagged their fifth Grammy for the album, Shaka Zulu Revisited. The group will organise their own isicathamiya awards, titled as the Cothoza Awards.
It will be a three-day event that takes place on the 22nd of June 2019 at the Durban Playhouse, in KZN.
According to SunBuzz, Sibongiseni Shabalala stated the awards was an initiative his father and group founder Professor Joseph Shabalala always held as a vision to one day host such an event.
The group was established from 60 years ago.
“This year we do not have categories. As a way of introducing the awards, we honour people like Solomon Linda and Bhodloza Ndimande. Winners will receive special medals in recognition of their contribution to the upliftment of isicathamiya,” he said.
Sibongiseni asserted they will escorting music industry prominent artist to educate young artists concerning the genre.
“We’ll be exploring the evolution of isicathamiya with the theme, Evolution of Isicathamiya: The Past, The Present and The Future, through discussion.”
He believes these awards will advance consciousness and produce a well-grounded market for the music genre and also educate the young generation to hold the music genre with high self-esteem.
