Musical Production “Mshegu” Will Pay Tribute To The Iconic Black Mambazo Leader Joseph Shabalala – This production looks to bring essence to the life and moments of the isicathamiya icon Joseph Shabalala, and narrate it through a musical experience.
It will be staged at the Soweto Theatre, in September 2019. Now, the production has been titled Mshengu: The Musical – and it was established on Wednesday, 10th July 2019. This beautiful tribute has been narrated by award-winning journalist, author Sandile Ngidi.
According to Sowetan, it is said Sandile Ngidi, explained that narrative based on Mshegu will be presented in a way that relates to the world and this will envelop the icon’s singer’s life, the details of Ladysmith Black Mambazo, people he has associated with, and being a leader and hero in his community.
Xolani Majozi, the manager of Mambazo stated it was pivotal to depict Shabalala’s story through theatre. The strategy is to lead the story to Broadway. He said the notion to produce such a story began in the year 2017.
The veteran stage and television performer Desmond Dube will direct the musical.
Following the Soweto Theatre in Jabulani plays out, Mshengu: The Musical will usher to The Playhouse in Durban prior to returning to Gauteng at the Johannesburg Theatre.
