Ntsiki Mazwai Shares An Intriguing Thread On Patriarchy & Women Being Overlooked – In South Africa, the 9th of August is Women’s Day and the month of August is National Women’s Month.
This is an occasion to commemorate women’s procurement and the significant role that women of all races and religions have portrayed and the transformation they continue to create in our South African society.
When you date back to our history, you learn that On the 9th of August 1956, an impressive number of more than 20 000 women journeyed from different direction of life, with various backgrounds, disintegrated in multitudes demonstration to the Union Buildings in Pretoria. They stood their ground, protested against the prejudice pass laws that were thrust on women in South Africa.
The women were led by Lilian Ngoyi – a trade unionist and political activist, Helen Joseph, Albertina Sisulu, and Sophia Williams-De Bruyn. Mzansi prepares to celebrate Women’s Day later this week, outspoken musician and TV host Ntsiki Mazwai has claimed that women are overlooked in society.
Now Mzansi is currently celebrating women’s month, numerous events are hosted representing the calibre of women who are making an impact. Ntsiki Mazwai mentions that most of these events are not backed up by the opposite sex, men do not reinforce such events.
The candid, unfiltered, personality is known to bear it all on the social media platform, Ntsiki tweeted: “Whenever there is an event to celebrate women…..men don’t support it,” she wrote.
Ntsiki stressed that women presumed to conduct themselves in a particular manner in opposition to the male gender.
“South Africa had room for outspoken and unruly men. Who was that highveld DJ whose advert had him burping on tv? And Phat Joe was given a free pass but when it comes to women….women must behave?!” she wrote.
