Maskandi Artists Want Answers For Their Category Being Removed At The Gospel Crown Awards

Maskandi Artists Want Answers – MASKANDI artists were looking forward to wrestle for this year’s SABC Gospel Crown Awards. But to their shock, their category was removed.

Artists such as Qhoshangokwenzakwakhe, Amageza Amahle and Abafana BakaMgqumeni are searching for answers from the organisers.

They say they were not addressed that the Best Maskandi Gospel category would not be included. The category, brought to be active in the year 2015, was voted for by the public.

Amageza Amahle leader Khayelihle “Potso” Ngobese told Daily Sun: “We do not know what led to this decision. Nothing was explained to us.

This category inspired us to always include gospel songs in our albums so that we could enter for these awards.” SABC Crown Gospel Music Awards executive committee member Sipho Kaleni told Daily Sun the maskandi category was not the only one that was removed.

“Due to a lack of growth in terms of quality participation and the number of entries, we have decided to put certain categories on hold.”

The categories that were left out include Best Community Outreach by a Church, Best Afrikaans Gospel and Best Gospel Poetry.

The awards will be held at the Durban ICC on 24 November.
