Top 10 Successful Artist That Come From Kalawa Jazmee 2019 – You see, 25 years ago there were two separate labels dominating the South African music industry; namely Trompies Jazmee Records, co-owned by Mahoota and Spikiri and Kalawa Records, owned by Oskido in partnership with Don Laka and DJ Christos Katsaitis.
1. Mafikizolo
In 1996 they recorded a four-track demo on a cassette tape and submitted it to Oscar Mdlongwa of Kalawa Jazmee Records. He liked their blend of R&B and kwaito and signed them. Aspiring kwaito star Tebogo Madingoane joined the line-up to turn the duo into a band.
Fame and stardom weren’t instant, and it was only with their third album Gatecrashers (1999) and the track ‘Majika’ that they began to find their own, unique sound. The song ‘Marabi’, with its 1960s feel, was their breakthrough hit and their now cohesive Mafikizolo sound was formed. The track opened their 2001 album release, Sibongile, which yielded great hits.
2. DJ Vetkuk
Beginning with their debut LP in 2000, Malombo (Kalawa Jazmee Records), long-time collaborators DJ Vetkuk vs Mahoota have worked hard to cement their place in the top tier of South African house DJs. This time round, they revive an 80’s classic party anthem by Woza Africa, “iStokvela”, by turning it into sure-fire house groove featuring the godfathers of South African house, Oskido and Professor.
3. Professor
In 2003 Professor was signed to Kalawa Jazmee Records by Oskido and Spikiri. At Kalawa Jazmee Records Professor was pair up with an already established Kwaito singer Tzozo, and together they formed a duo which was known as Tzozo & Professor. The emergence of Tzozo & Professor also marked the emergence of the subgenre, Durban Kwaito Music, spanning from the original genre pioneered by the very label that signed them, Kalawa Jazmee Records. While together the duo released three albums: “Woze Durban”, “Amantombazane” and “Magazine”
4. Bongo Maffin
Although Bongo Maffin has not given fans a full album since 2005, it doesn’t feel as though the group has been M.I.A from the music scene. Part of that reason is that all four of the group members have evolved into other facets of their careers that have seemingly provided them with many different opportunities within the entertainment industry. This is part of the reason why the group has managed to sustain longevity in the industry not only as just Bongo Maffin, but also as individual artists.
5. Winnie Khumalo
SINGER Winnie Khumalo has allegedly served her long-term record label, Kalawa Jazmee, with divorce papers. After media speculations of Winnie Khumalo being down and out after her exit from popular record label kalawa jazmee, she strikes back with a hit single called lazaru. The song features Lionel from Zimbabwe and Busiswa from Kwalawa. This is Winnie’s first single since she left the kalawa nest last year.

7. Busiswa
Busiswa is one of the top South African musicians who continues to command the attention of uncountable people globally. Her fans know her for the electric performances she gives on every stage that she steps on to sing or recite poetry. In late 2011, Oskido asked Busi to record My Name Is which DJ Zintle produced.
She was the co-writer in the song. Busi then relocated to Johannesburg, South Africa together with the rest of the Kalawa Jazmee Records team. At the time, My Name Is was very popular, so she got invitations to perform both at local and international events. She performed in countries such as Namibia, Zimbabwe and Angola.
8. Candy Tsa Mandebele
Candy “Tsa Mandebele” Mokwena is proud of her African culture. Her album Hupenyu Unenge Viri scored a Sama nomination this year in the Best Traditional Album category. She recently landed a role on the SABC2 drama series Giyani – Land of Blood.
9. Tamara Dey
