Benny Maverick Returns with Debut Solo Album Valencia

South African DJ, songwriter, producer, and entrepreneur Benny Maverick, born Philani Kweyama, has officially returned with his highly anticipated debut solo album, Valencia. Released through gamma., a global music and entertainment company supporting African creativity, Valencia marks a pivotal chapter in Benny Maverick’s career. The project reflects a deeply personal journey, inspired by his late mother, Valencia, whose resilience and strength shaped both his life and artistry.
The album’s title carries profound meaning. Valencia, derived from Spanish and Latin origins, translates to “strength,” “vigor,” and “brave-hearted one.” Benny Maverick dedicated the album to his mother, who raised her sons alone after their father’s passing. “Valencia is my story, my tribute, and my declaration of growth,” Benny Maverick said. “It’s about embracing your roots, pushing creative boundaries, and staying true to yourself.” The album explores themes of perseverance, heritage, and personal evolution, reflecting both his life experiences and artistic vision.
Valencia’s lead single, Uyadladla, is available as of Friday, 10 October 2025, alongside the album pre-order. The full album will officially drop on Friday, 14 November 2025, across all major streaming platforms. Uyadladla sets the tone for the album, blending Benny Maverick’s signature sound with introspective storytelling.
Benny Maverick began his career in 2008 as a young DJ navigating Durban’s vibrant nightlife. Facing challenges securing bookings, he founded Goodsundae, a youth-focused urban event that quickly became a staple in Durban’s music scene. His national breakthrough came in 2017 with the hit single Memeza featuring Dladla Mshunqisi. The track became a dance floor anthem and set the stage for Distruction Boyz’s SAMA Award-winning Omunye.
In 2021, Benny collaborated with his brother DJ Stanky (Sizamavezi Kweyama) to form Kweyama Brothers. They released the Platinum-certified EP Mpumalanga and the internationally acclaimed album Piano Over Poverty in 2022. The project expanded their reach to European audiences and solidified their global presence.
Benny Maverick extends his influence beyond music. He is the creative force behind Saso’s House, a premium urban event showcasing Durban’s energy, and One Man Concert, his flagship Easter weekend production known for large-scale performances. He also owns Maison Florida, a high-end Durban restaurant, and leads Sundance Music and One Man Concert Productions, companies dedicated to advancing live entertainment in South Africa.
Valencia represents a new era for Benny Maverick, blending gratitude, heritage, and innovation. The album celebrates his mother’s influence, Durban roots, and artistic evolution. “This album is more than music — it’s a reflection of my journey, my purpose, and my heart,” Benny Maverick explained.
