Arts & Culture Declines Thandiswa Mazwai’s Funding Application Once Again “I Have Been Trying Since 2017”
Arts & Culture Declines Thandiswa Mazwai’s Funding Application Once Again “I Have Been Trying Since 2017” – The National Arts Council (NAC) gave applications for the 2019 Project Funding cycle.
Individuals and registered arts organisations had until 19 April 2019 to submit their applications for project funding.
This was the NAC’s second round of funding with new programmes and applications utilising an online system following the entity’s strategic realignment in 2018.
If Finance Minister Tito Mboweni had read Vote 37: Arts and Culture of Budget 2019, which he tabled in Parliament that day, he would know that in the next financial year, the government will already be spending a total of R348-million — including more than R75-million on capital works — at the five nationally subsidised theatres.
Well, now, it is said, Projects should be of national significance, focusing on the creation of new works and overall arts development. Those that have a strong community base and have been conceived in collaboration with others working in similar fields are also encouraged to apply.
Now, Thandiswa Mazwai took to social media to share that she has been applying consistently since the year 2017 for funding but to no avail and even longer for other projects. Does this mean she does not meet the criteria or they are refusing blatantly to fund? We wonder what could be the actual factor.
