South African singer-songwriter Bianca Burt, known professionally as The Bird, has released a deeply personal and evocative new single titled Traveler’s Heart. Written during a solo trip to Portugal in May 2024, Traveler’s Heart beautifully captures the bittersweet emotions of letting go and rediscovering oneself on the road.

“Traveler’s Heart is a love letter to movement. Whether you’re crossing countries or navigating the emotional aftermath of something ending,” The Bird explains. “It was written in a moment of stillness, where I felt both the ache of longing and the peace of self-discovery.”

Bianca Burt’s musical path has been anything but straightforward. Raised between Cape Town and Hermanus, she was immersed in music from a young age, singing at family gatherings and performing with local bands. After completing high school, she pursued musical theatre but eventually stepped away from performing to focus on a career in events management, which led her to relocate to London in 2008.

Music found its way back to Bianca’s life after the passing of her father in 2014. Songwriting became her tool for healing, a vital way to process grief and reconnect with the creative spirit she had almost left behind. Since then, her music has served as a series of raw, honest journal entries—touching on themes like motherhood, divorce, love, and loss.

Now based primarily in Cape Town, Bianca creates under the moniker The Bird—a name chosen to represent freedom, perspective, and the journey of finding one’s way home.
