Top 10 Things You Did Not Know About Zonke Dikana
South African born singer-songwriter and record producer Zonke Dikana, is popularly known for her album ‘Ina Ethe’ which was certified double platinum and was nominated at the 18th South African Music Awards.
- She was born on 11th October 1979 in Port Elizabeth, South Africa. Her father was a drummer for a group called “Black Slave and the Flamingo”
2. Her late stepmother Anneline Malebo was a singer for a musical band known as Joy.
3. Zonke was taught by her father most of what she knows about music both the theory of composition and how to stand out at the game of music.
4. She graduated from the University of the Free State with a Degreen Human Resource Management in 1997.
5. She was first taught by her father about music and later her step mother Anneline Malebo introduced her to several artists including Ringo, Joe Nina and Deborah Fraser who she worked with either in writing or vocal capabilities.
6. Zonke had her big break when she wrote a song titled “Africa, My Motherland” for (Germany)-based band Jazzkantine. The band later became known as Culture Clan after Zonke and rappers Mandla and Mzo.
7. n June 2011, Zonke left Kalawa Jamzee for TMP Records and started recording Ina Ethe, her third studio album. Preceding the album’s release were two lead singles “Jik’Izinto” and “Feelings”.
8. On 25 October 2013, Zonke recorded and released a live album through Sony Music Entertainment titled Give and Take Live at the Lyric Theatre, Gold Reef City, Johannesburg.
9. The album achieved gold status under two months of its release. Give and Take Live also won two category awards at the 20th South African Music Awards.
10. She is the sister to the late Lulu Dikana who is popurlarly known fort the release of her debut album My Diary, My Thoughts.
