Prior To Success Blaq Diamond Kicked Off With A Different Genre In the Music Industry

Prior To Sucess Blaq Diamond Kicked Off With A Different Genre In the Music Industry – Blaq Diamond is a South African Afro-Pop duo that is composed by Ndumiso Mdletshe and Sphelele Dunywa who is better known as Ndu and Danya.

Both born in 1994 and bred in Ladysmith, Kwa Zulu Natal, Ndu and Danya shared a lot in common which led them to embark on a musical journey together.

This might come as a surprise, although, the afro-pop duo Blaq Diamond has unearthed that they have a hip-hop background.

The popular duo who debuted the music scenes with their afro-pop singles Sthandwa and Emzini Kababa unearthed amid a recent interview on Igagasi FM that they met in high school in a rap battle and they decided to form a group.

They further highlighted that the reason why they decided to stick to pop instead of hip-hop is their song Umakhelwane. The reception of the song encouraged them to pursue afro-pop instead of hip-hop.

How did this happen? I am sure you are perplexed by the above revelation. Well, the whole journey began as they were participating in school functions which earned them fame in the community and local surroundings. The influence of the Hip Hop culture played a big role in the creation of the group, they took part in hip hop stage battles and poetry and this resulted in their musical connection as well as them sharing more knowledge with regards to the industry.

Although, it is evident, selecting Afro-pop as a genre as their winning recipe in thriving in the music industry is proving fruitful, as their debut album, Inqola that they released in 2017 has had a nominee.

Also, Blaq Diamond, signed to Ambitiouz Entertainment just released their sophomore album, Umuthi, which is a follow-up to their 2017 debut album Inqola.

The project features several guests across its 13 songs; the likes of SjavaCiciThe LegacyIgcokama Elisha and a few others all make contributions to the album. Previously released singles such as the video singles “Memeza,” “Love Letter” and “Ibhanoyi.”

We cannot deny the success and impact their music has been having, especially since they became mainstream.
