Black Twitter Reacts To Thando Nje’s Explanation For Her Stage Name. A video recording of singer Thando Nje’s Slikouronlife interview from 2018 made rounds on the internet.
A video recording of singer Thando Nje’s Slikouronlife interview from 2018 made rounds on the internet. On the video recording, Slikour was asking the singer what was the reason behind the name ‘ThandoNje’. The singer said that the word ‘Nje’, translating to the word ‘just’, is silent. However, her explanation became confusing for Slikour. What she was trying to say was that her name is just Thando and it ends there.
Slikour wasn’t the only one confused, Black Twitter also wanted to understand her explanation. One tweep says, “Think she failed to articulate it better. People would think her name is short for something, like Thandolwethu and she’d have to say “No It’s just Thando, period”. So “Thando nje” is a direct translation of this. She put it there so people didn’t assume her name is longer.” One tweep says, “Lol shame a lot of people expect Thando to have a prefix and suffix. Thando is usually short for a host of other names. But she’s just Thando nothing more. Silent ‘nje’.
One tweep says, “I fully get what Thando was saying here. A lot of times ‘Thando’ is Thandokuhle, Thandolwethu, Thandolwenkosi in short, but in her case Thando is the real name not an abbreviation of anything. Just Thando.” One tweep says, Can’t believe she actually went silent after saying “Thando”.” One tweep says, “Can you imagine Thando nje having to explain a science experiment…”
