DJ Maphorisa has been accused on several occasions for allegedly being a wave rider. This is after people realised that the producer is on most of their famous genres such as Gqom during its prime time and now he is on to Amapiano. He has also been accused of using artists that are part of the wave that he is doing. However, the artist has shown people that he just plans on helping other artists.

He posted a video of Sjava and Mlindo The Vocalistic singing ‘Egoli’ from Mlindo’s debut album. DJ Maphorisa says that he initially produced the song for Sjava. The producer says, “When I produced this song with Sjava he was not signed like 5 years ago, I said this guy is a star he gave me goosebumps, I saved the song for a better cause…when I signed Mlindo went back to my kist [and] gave him the song. My point is I have a lot of material in my kist…”

Black Twitter reacted to the statement that DJ Maphorisa made. One tweep says, “The release of that song was essential for me to finish my degree.” One tweep says, “One thing no one can take away from you is that you have the ear to the sound of South Africa…” One tweep says, “…you don’t need to prove yourself to anyone!!”
