JESSIE REYEZ’S DEBUT ALBUM “BEFORE LOVE CAME TO KILL US” CHARTS BIG!

“Her music, though it’s categorized as R&B, pulls together the impulses of folky singer-songwriters and syllable-spitting rappers as well as pop melody and hip-hop impact.” – New York Times

The 14-track “Before Love Came to Kill Us” shows off multiple sides to Reyez, who isn’t easy to categorize. There’s some hip-hop, downer R&B, arena ballads and pop. Whatever it sounds like, it’s intense.” – Associated Press

“it’s a solid cap on a defining work from an exciting new star … even if it’s landing in a world very different from the one in which it was created.” – Variety

“Kill Us is the full portrait of Jessie Reyez. It’s a composite of the best and worst parts of her” – VICE

April 6, 2020 – Grammy nominated Toronto native Colombian Canadian singer-songwriter Jessie Reyez scores big as critically acclaimed debut album Before Love Came To Kill Us is the top female debut album and top R&B debut album of 2020.  The album was released on March 27 via FMLY/Island Records featuring previously released tracks “Ankles,” “Imported” ft. 6lack, her platinum smash “Figures,’ and a new standout track “Coffin” ft. Grammy award winning Detroit artist Eminem who was quoted in The New York Times on Jessie stating, She doesn’t sound like anybody. Her style of singing, the way she enunciates her words and everything, she’s just naturally dope. It seems like she’s not even trying, and she’s that good. Her voice and her cadences don’t sound like anybody I had ever heard before.” As a surprise to her fans, on Tuesday March 31st Jessie unexpectedly released the deluxe version of the project which included three new tracks and features from A-Boogie Wit Da Hoodie, JID, Rico Nasty and Melii.  Before Love Came To Kill Us is the #2 selling R&B album of the week, debuting at #5 on the Billboard Top Album Sales chart, #4 on the Billboard Top R&B Albums chart, #9 on the Top R&B/Hip-Hop Albums chart, and #13 on the Top Billboard 200 chart.

Last month, Jessie hit the road with global superstar Billie Eilish on her U.S. tour before the tour along with most of the music industry was abruptly halted due to the Covid-19 global pandemic.  Releasing the album during this time left Jessie conflicted.  On her decision to keep the album date Jessie states,” It messed me up because I was like ‘I don’t want to seem insensitive.’ I’ve grown up thinking about death as something that could easily happen tomorrow. But I know that for everybody else, there’s a lot of fear right now. I’m conflicted. But I’ve decided I’m putting it out because indecision never did anything for nobody.” Keep up on all things Jessie Reyez and follow her on socialsfor more updates!
