Thandiswa Mazwai took to social media on the 30, March 2020 to engage President Cyril Ramaphosa and the government to review the legislation for financial institutions to function advancing forward with grace, leniency and just treatment towards homeowners and people renting homes who have been affected by the lockdown.
“Nobody should lose their home because they can’t pay rent or a bond due to the lockdown. President and government enforce this, please!”
The iconic musician explicated that she desires that South Africans would come out of this crisis with the constitution of the country still intact, revealing that the government and other powers must be alert that South Africans are only temporarily accepting the limitation of rights for the sake of curbing the coronavirus.
Thandiswa Mazwai has prior said police minister Bheki Cele, the president and the military must not deviate from the focal point of the lockdown.
“Please, Bheki Cele, it is important to be clear that the army and police are called on to protect civilians and enforce the shutdown with dignity. We have momentarily let go of our rights, but only allowed their suspension for the greater good,” she said.
“Dear SA Police Service, you do not have the right to beat people up. People are allowed to be in their yards. Remember ubuntu. Treat others how you want your families to be treated. You are not the abusive baas. You are a servant of the people,” Thandiswa said.
Following viewing the viral videos allegedly showing SA National Defence Force and SA Police Service members humiliating civilians, Thandiswa also used her social media platform to speak against such disposition.
“Dear SA Police Service, you do not have the right to beat people up. People are allowed to be in their yards. Remember ubuntu. Treat others how you want your families to be treated. You are not the abusive baas. You are a servant of the people,” Thandiswa said.
