During the coronavirus pandemic, life has been pretty tough for many people. The Johannesburg Youth Orchestra Company has collaborated with legendary singer Vicky Sampson to keep the spirit of the country high during the coronavirus crises. The orchestra company and the legendary singer did a rendition of ‘Afrikan Dream’. Etienne Mecleon, the chief executive officer, says they wanted to provide some inspirational music in the country and around the globe.

Etienne Mecleon says the video of the rendition was meant for the people of Africa, to remind people who they are. They have also included an ‘I Am An African’ speech by former president, Thabo Mbeki. “Each young musician learnt the music, then recorded themselves and sent videos to me to edit and combine them. It is truly a ‘feel good’ thing for us and the people who listen. Vicky was only happy to be part of the initiative…,” says the orchestra company’s Chief Executive Officer.

The organisation has been hit hard by the pandemic. This is because the people who help them with funds to keep them afloat have stopped. On top of the funding issue to stay afloat, the children need assistance with numerous things, including data for online school work. Listen to the rendition below:
