Lady Gaga and Ariana Grande Rain Down Excellence in ‘Rain on Me’ Video Watch Now & Press Coverage!

Forget about the earthly realm; In 2020, heaven is a place on Chromatica.

The otherworldly planet’s fierce and fearless leaders, Lady Gaga and Ariana Grande, have ventured into bop-worthy sonic territory on their new single “Rain On Me,” and the track’s new music video is an equally satisfying collaboration between titanic pop powerhouses.

Directed by Robert Rodriguez — who previously helmed Gaga’s films Sin City: A Dame to Kill For and Machete Kills — the video opens on a rain-swept cityscape where knives fall from the sky. The narrative follows Gaga and Grande as they dance their way to rejuvenation (clad in jaw-dropping futuristic outfits) through intense choreography.

The song playing overhead sees the pair revisiting public battles through trauma as they belt therapeutic lyrics about resilience and strength in a lyrical “celebration of all the tears,” as Gaga previously told Paper magazine of the duet.

Shortly after the song’s release Friday morning, Gaga and Grande exchanged emotional Twitter messages celebrating their mutual adoration: “Thank you for reminding me I’m strong, I’m super emotional and love you so very much, I cherish you @ArianaGrande and little monsters without you I don’t know how I would survive. I’d rather be dry, but at least I’m alive,” Gaga wrote, before Grande further elaborated on the pair’s electric attraction to one another.

“one time ….. i met a woman who knew pain the same way i did… who cried as much as i did, drank as much wine as i did, ate as much pasta as i did and who’s heart was bigger than her whole body. she immediately felt like a sister to me,” Grande tweeted. “she then held my hand and invited me into the beautiful world of chromatica and together, we got to express how beautiful and healing it feels to mothaf— cry ! i hope this makes u all feel as uplifted as it does for us both. i love u @ladygaga, u stunning superwoman !”

“Rain On Me” serves as the second single (following February’s “Stupid Love”) from Gaga’s forthcoming album Chromatica. Originally set for release on April 10, the ongoing coronavirus pandemic forced the singer to postpone the album, which was eventually rescheduled to drop on May 29.

In addition to Grande, the album features collaborations with Korean pop group Blackpink and legendary singer-songwriter Elton John, as well as production and songwriting contributions from Max Martin, Boys Noize, Madeon, Ryan Tedder, Justin Tranter, Tchami, Burns, and BloodPop, among others.

First we were lost in the desert, but now there’s rain. Lady Gaga has released the video for “Rain on Me,” the second song off her new album Chromatica, featuring and co-starring Ariana Grande. The video is a further step into the “world” of Chromatica, as Gaga has described, after her video for the single “Stupid Love” which found Gaga and her dancers having a spacey dance party in the middle of the desert. (And the new song itself is slays, but we’ve known that for 13 hours now.) Gaga’s pink-clad dancers are back, and they meet a group of purple dancers led by Ari during a rainstorm of daggers. Then they do what people tend to do in the world of Chromatica, which is have a dance party.

“She was so open to trying things that she hasn’t done before,” Gaga previously told Apple Music’s Zane Lowe of working with Grande on the video. (Such as, but not limited to, letting her hair down from her signature ponytail.) “It was this beautiful, I think very healing process for me, not necessarily having a female artist that mentored me as I came up.” It’s now down to a little under a week before we find out what else Chromatica has in store on May 29 — unless, of course, anything leaks, and wouldn’t that be unfortunate?

Lady Gaga and Ariana Grande premiered the music video for their new collab “Rain On Me” on Friday (May 22) and their respective fan bases reacted with a resounding cry: pop music is saved.

“Wow. Two powerful iconic italian women did WHAT? That,” one Little Monster tweeted while another declared the two stars switching hairstyles partway through the clip as “one for the history books.”

Meanwhile, on particularly clever fan tied Mean Girls into her response, tweeting, “There’s a 100% chance it’s raining on me” alongside an edit of Karen, the hilariously ditzy Plastic played by Amanda Seyfried in the 2004 teen classic, wearing Gaga’s Chromatica-inspired makeup as she reports on the weather.

Arriving on the heels of lead single “Stupid Love,” “Rain On Me” serves as the second preview off Gaga’s long-awaited sixth studio album, which is set to be released May 29 after being pushed back due to the coronavirus pandemic. The dance-pop duet also marks Grande’s second major collab of the month following her No. 1 hit with Justin Bieber, “Stuck With U.”

Lady Gaga and Ariana Grande lead a futuristic dance party in the video for their new single “Rain On Me,” to be featured on Gaga’s upcoming album Chromatica.

The visual, directed by Spy Kids auteur Robert Rodriguez, follows the same cyberpunk-anime aesthetic that Gaga has presented for the Chromatica album cycle. Dressed in pink, the pop star leads a troupe of dancers inside of a giant arena, with Ariana’s pink-hued squad on the flipside of the video. There’s also some dramatic close-ups of Gaga with rain pouring down her face, and at one point, she and Ari are shown holding hands, each with lengthy Sailor Moon hair floating in the wind behind them.

Chromatica, Lady Gaga’s sixth studio album, was originally due out April 10th but was delayed due to the COVID-19 pandemic. The album will now be out Friday, May 29th. “Rain on Me” follows the release of LP’s lead single, “Stupid Love,” released in February. In addition to Grande, the 16-song Chromatica will also feature contributions from Elton John and South Korean group Blackpink.

Earlier this month, Grande released a prom-themed music video for “Stuck With U,” a collaboration with Justin Bieber. Proceeds from the single will go toward the First Responders Children’s Foundation, benefiting children of COVID-19 first responders with grants and scholarships.
