The ‘Kings Of The Weekend’, DJ Naves and Sphectacula, have declined claims that their track titled ‘Ngeke’ promotes rape culture. The two artists went on to state that the song is about being able to get what you desire and personal ambition. The track was part of the talk a few months back.
The track was brought into a talk about radio stations allegedly not wanting to play Moonchild Sanelly’s ‘Askies’ track. Television director Bev Ditsie wrote lyrics that were from the track, the lyrics supposedly promote rape culture. The tweet got a reaction from other social media users, including poet Lebo Mashile and media personality Penny Lebyane. Lebo Mashile says, “They won’t playlist [Moonchild Sanelly], but they will happily play songs that promote rape culture.”
‘The Kings Of The Weekend’ Sphe and Naves spoke to TshisaLive and stated that it was not their plan to promote rape culture in the track. “We would like to assure music lovers that this was never intended meaning, nor would they ever include such a notion in the music they create. Ngeke is absolutely by no means promoting rape culture. This is certainly not something we take lightly or would include in our music whatsoever,” says the statement.
