Stoan Seate, the ‘Bongo Maffin’ group member, celebrated 25 years of being in the music game, which was also his 45th birthday. The musician has been in the music industry for quite some time. In the past few weeks he has been mirroring the situation that has been surrounding the music industry.

The artist states that the hospitality and entertainment sectors have been affected the worst by the lockdown. He also stated that those two sectors will be the last sectors to come out of a rut. Stoan has also gone on to state that the relief fund provided by the government is not enough. “I’ve had time to analyse what is happening to my industry and each time arrive at the same logical conclusion. Our egos might hype us differently, tell you something different, for me the evidence screams out, the truth is “We are surplus to society’s requirements”. The entertainment industry and hospitality sector are the hardest hit in this crisis and we will be the last to recover. I’ve seen what the government tried to do but we all know it’s not even nearly enough. I don’t see the proportionality reflected in the Minister’s efforts,” says Stoan.

“R150 mill is hardly enough for all these artists and this is made exponentially worse by the fact that the money has to be shared with all the sports people. This is a reflection of the amount of value that government and the society attach to us…and this is just not enough.” The Bongo Maffin group member also noted that after 25 years of being in the industry, he doesn’t see his family’s future lying in music.

“So…for the first time in my 25 year career, I have to admit that my family’s financial future no longer lies in the music entertainment industry. This is a heartbreaking admission for me to make especially after investing more than half my life and best years in this, but it’s the truth. I don’t see myself at my age trying to rebuild a music career at a time I should be on auto-cruise. I’ve had a great ride, been around the world twice but now it’s time for a new focus. The artist says he started a new show that is inline with his passion of helping those in need.
