Dave Scott, member of ‘The Kiffness’, has been openly stating that the Southern Music Rights Organisation (SAMRO) has not been paying artists the royalties due to them. He has also previously stated that the SABC owes the music rights organisation millions of rands for the music that the SABC has been playing. The artist even went on to request that the SABC stop playing his music till they start paying royalties.
‘The Kiffness’ member went on to speak on Carte Blanche, speaking about the hardships that he had to previously go through as an artist. He also stated why it is important for him to make such a big statement about the problems that artists face, he also spoke about his hope of other artists following suite by also requesting their money.
Other musicians such GoodLuck’s lead singer and Majozi went on to speak about the effect that the money that was owed had on their music life. The issue has recently been largely felt by some musicians because of the lockdown rules and the fact that the artists will not be performing at concerts for a while. This is where organisations such as SAMRO work hard for the artists so that they could survive the lockdown.
