DJ Warras has said his piece on the talks about the taxi industry and the relief fund that the industry has asked for from the government due to outcome that the lockdown has had on the taxi sector. The media personality and DJ thinks that the government should give taxi people what they request. This is after there was a taxi strike on Monday, which turned violent, after police used rubber bullets to separate taxi drivers and owners that blocked the road in Gauteng.
The strike was started after the government offered R1bn to the industry to limit the effects of the coronavirus pandemic. However, the sector did not like the money offered to them, stating that it was not enough for relief. The taxi sector insisted on getting R20 000 per taxi. The media personality says that he didn’t see the reason why the government would not be able to give the taxi industry more than the original relief amount of R1 billion.
“Government can’t give the Taxi industry what they want because they can’t tell us how much is left of the 500 billion?? And how was it/ is it being dispensed. The billions they’re asking for to observe the rules of Covid and transport the workforce daily- is worth paying,” says DJ Warras. Fellow media personality Sizwe Dhlomo also had his piece to say, agreeing with DJ Warras.
