Lady Antebellum Changes Their Group Name Because Of Its Slavery-Era Connections

Lady Antebellum Changes Their Group Name Because Of Its Slavery-Era Connections. Country music group Lady Antebellum have shortened their group name.

Country music group Lady Antebellum have shortened their group name. This was after they realised that there are negative meanings associated with ‘Antebellum’. The group went on social media on Thursday to speak about the name change.

The group has shortened their name to Lady A, a name that has been used by their fans for quite some time. The group members went on to speak about how the Black Lives Matter protests and the new talks about racial wrongdoings and inequality have made them look back on the connections the latter half of their name has to the points of the pre-Civil War South area, which also involves slavery. The group says that they have been seeing biases that black men and women have been facing.

“Now, blind spots we didn’t even know existed have been revealed. After much personal reflection, band discussion, prayer and many honest conversations with some of our closest black friends and colleagues, we have decided to drop the word ‘antebellum’ from our name and move forward as Lady A, the nickname our fans gave us almost from the start,” says the band. The country music band says that they are embarrassed and regretful at having ignored the past criticism’s about the use of the word, a word they got after taking pics at an antebellum-style home.
