5FM Supports Reach For A Dream This Mandela Month
As the country approaches Mandela Day, 5FM plans on commemorating one of the country’s greatest icons all though July with a CSi initiative supporting the Reach for a Dream Foundation.
Earlier this month the 5Drive team (Mondays – Fridays 15:00 – 18:00), hosted by Nick Hamman, began the Dream Booster campaign with the foundation, building on an already successful relationship with the Foundation. In 2018 the station set out to, with the help of listeners and corporates, fulfill 30 dream in 30 days to celebrate Reach for a Dreams’ 30-year anniversary.
This year, with very different global circumstances due to the coronavirus, the foundation, like so many other organisations, have been negatively affected, with many prospective dreams being put on hold. Through the Dream Boosters campaign 5FM will endeavour to assist in the realisation of four dreams of kids’ fighting life-threatening illness and hopefully many others through donations.
Everyday, shortly after 16:00, listeners can tune in for daily updates on 5Drive or follow the stories on our various social media platforms.
The first dream realised belonged to Sihle Ngwenya (13) whose dream of being a chef was helped by popular Johannesburg-based chef David Higgs – who will meet with him when it’s safe to do so and teach him how to make Gnocchi .
Tlhalefo Maloka has her turn this week and the energetic four-year-old has always wanted a big, pink Wendy House to play in with Barbie dolls, which Nick and the team are assisting to fulfill.
Within the next two weeks, the spotlight will turn to 17-year-olds Lwazi Msizazwe and Larson Stemmet, two passionate teenagers who love the arts and being creative. Lwazi dreams of being a successful rapper and hopes to meet Nasty C in the hopes he would impart some career advice, while Larson longs to learn all about videography and dreams of owning professional video equipment.
The Reach for a Dream Foundations say they positively impact the lives of 30 000 children through different support programs annually, many of these children not only fighting their illness, but they also come from impoverished backgrounds. These children and their families rely on the support offered by the Foundation.
If you wish to assist the Foundation is making many other dreams come true, you may make a contribution by donating by visiting www.dreamboosters.co.za.
