Miss Hilary Carves a Name in Dance and Heritage Preservation

Soweto-born dance choreographer and entertainer Miss Hilary has made waves in South Africa by collaborating with Limpopo dance music icons, Makhadzi and Sho Madjozi. Real name Tinyiko Hilary Khoza, the 25-year-old artist is gaining recognition for blending music, dance, fashion, and culture to preserve her heritage.

Miss Hilary describes her journey into the industry as a path of authenticity. “Forging my own path wasn’t an easy feat. I always bear in mind the importance of staying true to who I am and what I want to share with the world. It’s about telling my stories, expressing my truth and connecting with people in ways that feel genuine,” she explains. She credits Sho Madjozi for introducing Venda culture to new spaces and Makhadzi for uniting tribes through her music.

Her commitment to heritage preservation is central to her work. Growing up surrounded by African traditions, Hilary recognized early that culture thrives only when actively celebrated. She uses digital platforms to share music, dance, and fashion rooted in African culture, ensuring that younger generations see tradition as vibrant and alive.

Hilary’s four-year plan includes releasing an album, touring, and establishing The Hilary Foundation. The foundation is designed to provide opportunities in the arts, education, and entrepreneurship for young people, especially women. “I know what it feels like to have talent but lack the resources or the network to make it flourish. The foundation is my way of making sure others don’t face those same barriers,” she says.

Her creative influence extends beyond South Africa. On her Mozambique tour, she merged Tsonga and Mozambican sounds, celebrating the shared rhythms and cultural connections between the two regions. The collaboration began on social media and grew into music that bridges cultural worlds.

Hilary’s community initiatives are a reflection of her roots. Homecoming shows in Soweto and Limpopo serve as inspiration for young artists, showing that talent from local communities can reach global stages. She integrates stories of her community’s struggles and triumphs into her performances, creating art that resonates widely.

Her broader vision focuses on empowerment and identity. Hilary Kids TV and her children’s clothing line emphasize cultural pride and positive self-image for the next generation. She believes that planting these seeds early ensures that future artists carry African heritage forward with confidence.

Miss Hilary continues to rise as a choreographer, entertainer, and cultural ambassador. Her work highlights the potential of African traditions in contemporary music, dance, and fashion while opening doors for young talent to thrive.
