The South African Music Awards will be following suite of other award ceremonies by the ceremony happening online due to the Covid-19 regulations. The award ceremony will be broadcast on a different channel in 2020. The award ceremony was normally held on SABC 1.

The SAMA Awards ceremony will take place over five nights and they will happen on Mzansi Magic. The South African Music Awards will happen from the 3rd of August to the 7th of August at 21:30. The five day broadcasts will end at 22:00, excluding the final part of the award ceremony which will end at about 21:15. The theme of the award ceremony will be #ForThaKultcha.

The award ceremony will also repeat on Channel O.
