Thabang Mothapo Back With His Latest Third Studio Album! Talented musician, Thabang Mothapo is back with his next offering, a 14-track gospel album that aims to bring healing and shows gratitude to God.
“For me, this album was an extremely personal one, and after many challenges – God showed me again and again that he never lets us down. There have been many challenges where I thought it was over and God came through for me,” Mothapo said.
No stranger to the entertainment industry, Mothapo is a professional drummer, singer, vocal director and songwriter. His big break came when Sabelo Mtshali introduced him to Jub Jub, who was one of the biggest artists in the country at the time and he then became Jub Jub’s drummer for all his gigs in and out of the country.
To date, he has played for some of the country’s most renowned artists like Simphiwe Dana, Kabomo, Bucie, William Sejake, Xolani Jwaga, Pastor, Solly Mahlangu and Lebo Sekgobela to name a few.
His shift to being a full-time singer was an easy one as the music was always the centre of his life from a young age. “Since starting out as a singer in 2015, it has been an interesting and difficult journey, with many challenges. Gospel resonates with me and if it wasn’t for my belief in God, I would have quit a long time ago. It has definitely been a building process; you learn every day.”
Titled, Thank You Lord, Mothapo explained that if listeners took anything from his new album, it would be to give gratitude, particularly in these trying times, “The Covid19 pandemic has affected so many people, personally my finances have taken a deep dive south as many events and concerts that I was booked for have been cancelled. Despite everything my focus remains on God, as he keeps all his promises.”
Although reluctant to categorise his latest offering, Mothapo explained that the album had a smooth sound. Some of his favourite tracks from the album include Sikwethembile, Unami and I Really Trust You.
Mothapo’s first album was released in 2015, titled Ngek’Akushiye, followed by Ngidinga Wena in 2017.
