DJ Maphorisa had to let social media users know that some people actually like Amapiano. The incident started after he wanted to ask Shimza to play the genre at his sets. However, some social media users negatively criticised the genre with some of them saying that it is annoying.

“Can we ask Shimza to start playing Amapiano on his sets please, I wanna see something,” says DJ Maphorisa. One social media user responded by saying, “That piano things of yours is annoying us…Every tracks that you produce they have the same beat…Leave Shimza out of this…Shimza aint gonna play that piano of yours.” The musician went to say, “Annoying??? [Your] death [uncle]. [You] mean all the girls going crazy with my music are kukus (crazy)…”

The music producer stated that the genre might not be for everyone but people still dance to it when drunk. “Amapiano is not for everyone but why are you dancing to it when [you] drunk,” says DJ Maphorisa. Social media commented by saying that people dance to almost anything when they are drunk.
