Black Coffee and DJ Tira have recently publicised that they have launched the KwaZulu-Natal Entertainment awards. The two musicians’ fans cannot are anticipating the event happening, with the support of the two musicians that they like. However, media personality Hulisani Ravele felt that the show was a waste of money.
It is stated that the winners in each category get the award and a cash prize of R100k. The overall winner gets the award and R500k. The personality says the money could be put to better use if the money is coming from the government. “Who’s paying? If it’s [government], this is a spit in the face of dilapidated schools, kids who cross dangerous rivers & walk for [kilometres] to get to school, students who can’t afford tuition. I’m all for celebrating those who do well, the arts, [but] please, this wasteful expenditure,” says Hulisani Ravele.
She states that even if the money were to come from the Department of Arts and Culture, there are still more ways to use that money for the people in the arts. “And before you say that the DAC’s budget is what is being tapped into and not DBE…there are still many ways that these funds can more purposefully used to uplift members of the arts community in the province. This ain’t it,” says Hulisani Ravele.
