Cape Town’s Yoshe Releases Emotionally Powerful Single “Oceans”

Cape Town-born alt-R&B and indie alternative artist Yoshe has released his latest single, Oceans—a raw and emotionally stirring track that marks a bold evolution in his musical journey. Known for his genre-blurring collaborations with electronic artists like Thor Rixon, Kekura, and Virela, Yoshe steps into a more vulnerable and intimate space with this release, blending alt-pop, indie, and R&B elements to create a sound that feels deeply personal and universally resonant.

Oceans is not your typical love song. Instead of focusing on romantic infatuation, it explores emotional maturity, grounded relationships, and the quiet strength found in true partnership. “‘Oceans’ isn’t about romantic infatuation,” says Yoshe. “It’s about that shift from man-boy to man—taking responsibility, carrying each other’s weight, and recognising the partner who walks beside you through it all. Where he’s caught in the noise of his own mind, she’s the calm that quiets it—like the ocean.”

This sentiment is reflected in every layer of the song’s production. Soulful instrumentation, subdued yet expressive melodies, and introspective lyricism come together to create a sonic experience that is both reflective and immersive. It’s an anthem for those navigating the complexities of adulthood and emotional connection, and it stands out for its sincerity and depth.

Crafted alongside a tight-knit team of collaborators, Oceans features creative input from Yanick Bathfield and Simon Ackermann (of Grassy Spark), producer Vincente Espi, and Greg Abrahams (Sound Foundry). Each contributor brings a distinct energy and texture to the track, helping shape its rich and emotionally layered sound.

Yoshe’s creative process is defined by authenticity rather than genre. “I never write with a genre in mind,” he explains. “I care about sincerity. Something with edge. Something you can dance to or sit still with.” His musical influences are just as eclectic—ranging from Frank Ocean and The Police to Slipknot and Hans Zimmer—resulting in a sound that feels as unpredictable as it is compelling.

After five collaborative singles that have collectively racked up over half a million streams, Oceans signals a significant shift in Yoshe’s artistic direction. It’s the beginning of a more introspective and refined chapter—one where he’s not just experimenting with sound, but fully embracing his voice and vision. “This new chapter is more personal,” he shares. “It’s Yoshe, fully formed.”

With another single set to drop in July and a full EP expected in August, Yoshe is on the brink of a breakout moment. And when it comes to live performances, he’s ready to bring his studio emotions to the stage. “That’s where this project really shines. I can’t wait to bring it to life.”

Oceans is now available on all major streaming platforms.
