PJ Powers is a legend in the South African music game, with performances alongside several other legends. The musician, also known as Thandeka, received an honorary award at the 15th annual South African Traditional Music Awards. The event was held on the 5th of December 2020.
The musician was given the award for ‘Best Traditional Female Legend’. She was awarded alongside some of the greatest South African traditional musicians. In her speech, the musician expressed how thankful she was that South Africans have chosen her for all these years. Other stars who received awards include the internationally renowned Master KG for ‘Jerusalema’, who has been having quite a good roll around the world.
The nomination of legends was under the theme of the year titled ‘Celebrating Afrika’. “What a fabulous evening at the [South African Traditional Music Awards]! I am so honoured to receive the SATMA Best Traditional Female Legend Award and it feels so good to connect again with all the legends I’ve had the privilege of walking alongside, on this journey in SA music. Thank you [South African Traditional Music Awards] for choosing me for this incredible achievement. Thank you South Africa for loving me, unconditionally,” says PJ Powers.
