Busiswa Bashes The City Of Joburg For Removing Illegal Adverts. The City of Joburg has recently announced that illegal advertisements may be removed by community members who see them.
The City of Joburg has recently announced that illegal advertisements may be removed by community members who see them. The municipality has also shown the signs of legal sign that is set to be in an area, thereby asking people to also contact them when they see illegal advertisements. The statement by the municipality has received a lot of negative reactions.
One of the reactions is from well renowned musician Busiswa, who bashed the municipality. “It’s a pandemic & a lockdown!! People need work,” says Busiswa. One social media user responded to the musician by saying that when laws are put into action someone complains. “Everytime laws are being implemented [someone] complains…Every shoprite or [Pick ‘n Pay] has a section where [you] can advertise for free [to] a wider base because everybody buys food. That is not a designated area to area to advertise your business, these [people] even put on top of traffic signs…it’s wrong,” says the user.
The musician says that laws are not made by God, therefore they can be adjusted by the people to mirror a just society for the era that we are living. She goes on to say that it may protect and uplift the most vulnerable in society. One user says that lawlessness in the City should be avoided. “In this economy, not that many. We can also avoid by-laws that oppress the poor in a country that is most unequal in the world. Excluding the informal economy is an unnecessary evil,” says Busiswa.
