Defected launches Afro house label ‘Sondela’. Simon Dunmore announces new record label named Sondela, aimed for players in the music industry as to support responsible progress in developing countries, making a positive impact in disadvantaged communities and helping to raise global awareness about local issues through music. The launch of the record label will kick start with a debut track from Hyenah music, DJ Tira and Luke Ntombela to be released on 5 February 2021.
“I’ve been really happy being part of Sondela, I’ve always wanted to be a part of shining the light on the amazing talents from my home continent, bridging the worlds together to new listeners and also to release amazing future classic records. Even at this early stage in my A&R journey, I’ve learnt so much and so keen to learn more at Sondela.” – Sef Kombo, A&R at Sondela Records
Simon Dunmore went on social media to announce the work they’re doing for the greater good: “Proud and excited to announce our new label @sondela which aims to profile Afro-influenced music. Launching with their debut track ‘’Ezizweni’ coming from a champion of African House @Hyenahmusic. Featuring @DJTira and @LukeNtombela it’s up for pre order today.”
The organisation ‘Bridges Academy’ in Cape Town also received a visit from Ed Sheeran for an inspiring workshop with local artists ahead of his sold out concert in 2019.
In a statement, Defected said: “All profits made will be going to @bridgesformusic, a non-profit organisation based in South Africa, gathering key players of the industry to support responsible progress in developing countries & make a positive impact in disadvantaged communities.”
Hyenah has become an advocate of the Afro-influenced music genre in Europe. We’re are in awe to hear the song by these giants. These are good news that Mzansi needs this 2021.
